Welcome to the gallery

The KLP33 gallery is the online platform to the artwork of martin pollock, creating images in the style of realism, using traditional mediums and subject matter of the marine artist.
An underlying theme to the work is the effects of change, a very common theme but how it affects all that comes in contact with it can be very much the opposite.

Thank you for visiting the KLP33, in the gallery you'll find artwork for your contemplation, providing visual statements of how the effects of Change alter the looks and conditions of the lives of people it eventually touches and hopefully capturing the feeling of those moments within the images of the artworks and placing them firmly in the mind's eye and hopefully the heart of the viewer.

A beach benediction

In the scene the viewer is shown an old boat not appearing to be doing something but being something, the wooden structure of it's frame is slowly acted on by time and the elements to turn the old vessel into an offering to the stones that surround it.

In this scene again the story line is of an old wooden trawler, her stem facing slightly upward suggesting that she's meeting with oncoming water, behind her rail tracks hint at direction and movement, though standing still making way on this other sea.

Again the viewer gazes on an abandoned fishing boat, like the other members of her fleet she is cast off, time and tide being things that happen behind her, her future days numbered on this other sea.

A couple pass by a remnant of an old fishing fleet, a piece of the beaches history it sits on, A lively breeze lifts the young woman's hair, it also moves tall grass some how making it appear like waves acting on the old boat, setting her in motion to follow behind on their morning walk, out of it's past and into their future.

The sea gull in this scene is looking out for an opportunity to find food. The old abandoned fishing boat offers no chance of food, but it does offer the bird passage on its journey into the stones of the beach.

A dialogue of decades

Two vessels build many decades apart but to do the same work, one it's days behind her and sitting ashore, the other setting out on the tide taking it toward a catch and it's days on the sea.

Title: Pulling on the past

In this artwork there is a statement of a wider picture, An old fishing boat has a phantom net being hauled in over it's stern, It has the bones of fish that have long since passed from reality. On the stone to the boats starboard sits it broken compass. an element of the old vessels past broken.

Title; Sentinel of the shoreline

Within this seascape a red light beacon off the south of England's shoreline stands as a sentinel of the coast. Its steady light guides passing vessels through changing tides and weather, offering a constant point of reference in an ever changing sea.

Thames barge at Chelsea wharf

These two old traders stand alongside one and other, in a scene very reminiscent of those times when they played their part in the hustle and bustle of the trading rout that was the Thames.

Very special moments can occur at any time and anywhere, when out of the blue and here a yellow sky by shear chance, or perhaps not, a special moment occurs out of something that happens millions of times a day a text message, that changes into a most unusual, surreal and beautiful instant.

The Emergence

In the abstract scene of this piece a fish emerges from a symbol cut into a submerged chalk face, the chalk broken and falling to the depths as the fish takes on form, it's movement into the sea set in motion by the powerful waves crashing on the cliffs in the background, The fish now about to begin it's journey into wide open ocean, it's shallows and the deep.

Above and below the moat

Two very different creatures swim in the same habitat, one below and in it's element, while the other on it and only partially in the moats environment, the duck is able to leave the moat but they seem to be able to share it's water and space without this fact being noticed by either of the two at all, and almost oblivious of one and others movements.

Title; The other side of the divide

In this artwork a moment or perhaps more a period of time that tears through the fabric of our realities and will enter into nearly everyone's life heralding loss. The loss here is a universal one, the viewer is given a real chance for interaction, the old boat in the foreground represents what has been lost, it fills a large portion of the image (the mind), the dog on the beach is where we need to be, able to see the full horizon, a boat on the sea representing what might have been, that other journey now not taken, it's passage soon lost from view and disappearing into the horizon.

on the Embankment

Boudicca on the Embankment and her daughters look out east over the water of the river Thames in the city of London. In the scene below Friday evening traffic ferries home it's passengers to start their weekend for a change of pace, a time away from the weekly grind and the city's demands.

Title: The memory of water

Looking out to sea on the sandy beach of Sennen cove Cornwall at low tide, slow rolling waves wash up on the shore, their mixed contours and colours evoke memories of another time, Gazing into the sea on any shoreline it will show you images of the past and present never the future, tune into it's sounds and it will speak to you of those you loved once and once loved you.

Every piece is a dialogue between the medium and the observer, capturing transient moments and setting them firmly in the mind's eye.
